Swansea have made contact with ex-Chelsea assistant manager Jody Morris regarding the vacant managerial role at the Championship club, according to The Athletic's Stuart James on Twitter.

Football League World learned exclusively last week that there was interest in Morris at Swansea, and the conversations have now begun.

James' tweet states that at this point in Swansea's pursuit of recruiting a new manager, Morris and one other candidate are being considered.

Morris had long been associated with Chelsea, managing the club's U18s between 2014 and 2018, before following Frank Lampard to Derby.

Lampard's former assistant then joined The Blues when the Chelsea legend was appointed, but he has been out of the professional game since Thomas Tuchel was appointed.

Swansea have finished the last two campaigns in the play-off positions, but given the complications of this summer, it seems the South Walian club are heading towards a period of rebuild.

The verdict

Morris has enjoyed football with Chelsea at the highest level and has proved to be an excellent coach during that time. However, there will be questions because he has not been tested fully as the overall boss as of yet.

The 42-year-old is still very young himself and is trying to pave his way into a managerial role and this Swansea opportunity could really appeal to him.

The Swans still possess an excellent squad of players and under the right management, they could certainly challenge for promotion once again.

It is not an ideal situation for The Swans to be in with the season just around the corner, but Morris is an exciting, young coach who deserves a shot like this.
