Swansea are interested in signing Burnley's Nahki Wells, report Sky Sports News [transfer centre, 5/8 10:19 a.m.].

Wells spent last season on loan at QPR, and is likely available for transfer either on loan or permanently given he is quite far down the pecking order in Sean Dyche's plans.

The Swans are in search of attacking reinforcements following the sale of Oli McBurnie to Sheffield United, and Wells has been identified as one such target to replace the 22-goal man.

According to Sky Sports News, the club has only made an enquiry as to the availability of the 29-year-old, so it is not yet known if Wells could make more than a temporary move away.

Swansea have now reportedly brought in close to £40 through the sales of Dan James [£18m] and Oli McBurnie [£20m] alone, but still haven't spent anything in the way of transfer fees this season.

As a result, it is more likely that Wells makes his second loan move in as many seasons, after scoring seven in 40 games at QPR in his year spell last season.

The Verdict

This is a sensible move by Swansea but there is a concern that the team would struggle to replace the number of goals McBurnie brought to the attack.

Wells is an experienced Championship player and he would link up well with the likes of Nathan Dyer and Bersant Celina, but with him in the side Swansea will not pose the same threat as last season, and could struggle to break down some Championship defences.

McBurnie performed well last season as he got onto the end of crosses and suited Swansea's system, which would have to change with Wells in the team. Wells would be a good addition but unless he rediscovers his best form in front of goal Steve Cooper's side could struggle for goals.
