Swansea City boss Steve Cooper has revealed that Morgan Gibbs-White is doing well as the recovers from injury, although this weekend's derby at Cardiff will come too soon.

The England U21 international joined the Swans in the summer on a season-long loan from Wolves. Bringing in the playmaker was considered a real coup given his pedigree, and the early signs were positive as Gibbs-White starred.

However, the youngster hasn't played since early October after suffering from a fractured foot.

The injury had been expected to keep Gibbs-White out for up to three months, which would mean an early January return is on the cards. And, speaking to the club's media, Cooper indicated that everything is going as it should be in terms of the recovery.

"Morgan (Gibbs-White) is still injured but he has made good progress."

Swansea have coped well without the 20-year-old, as they head into the game against their bitter rivals sitting in fourth position, whilst they could potentially end up in the automatic places if they win and results go their way.

The verdict

This is encouraging news for Swansea because even though he only played four games before the injury, Gibbs-White looked very impressive.

So, he will add a lot to the team when he does come back, and it's something for Cooper to look forward to.

The immediate challenge is to continue to pick up points without Gibbs-White, starting on Saturday in what is the biggest game of the campaign for most fans.
