Swansea City are among a host of sides interested in signing Shrewsbury Town defender Aaron Pierre, as per Football Insider.

Pierre, who joined Shrewsbury from Northampton at the start of last season, has endured an impressive campaign for Steve Cotterill's side.

The powerful centre-half, previously on the books at Brentford and Wycombe Wanderers, has scored four goals in 24 appearances this season, producing a string of impressive displays for Salop.

The 27-year-old has helped Shrewsbury keep clean sheets against promotion chasers Hull, Lincoln and Doncaster of late, and has been an instrumental figure at the back.

His contract isn't set to expire until the end of next season, but Pierre is now believed to be attracting interest from the Championship.

According to Football Insider, Swansea are among a host of Championship sides interested in signing Pierre now the January transfer window is open.

The Swans currently boast the best defensive record in the division, having conceded only 12 goals in 22 games this term.

The Verdict

Swansea's defensive performances have been so impressive this season, and Pierre would be another solid addition to add to their backline.

He is very dangerous in the air and rarely loses an aerial duel, and he is also capable of playing the ball out from the back.

He's still at a good age, and I think he is deserving of a leap up to the Championship having done well in League One.
