Swansea City are closing in on securing the loan signing of Seattle Sounders winger Jordan Morris with the 26-year-old thought to be set to complete the move in the coming week, per The Athletic.

Steve Cooper’s side have been in the market to add to their attacking options in the January transfer window, having lost both Morgan Gibbs-White and Kasey Palmer who have returned to Wolves and Bristol City respectively following the ending of their loan spells.

Swansea have been consistently linked with a move for Morris throughout the window so far.

It is now thought that Swansea are closing in on completing the move for Morris and that the deal should be completed within the next week, while they are also thought to be interested in making a move for Aston Villa’s Conor Hourihane as they step up efforts to add to their squad, per The Athletic.

Did Swansea City sign each of these 14 players for more or less than £1 million?

Morris’ arrival would see him become the Swans second signing of the window after Ben Hamer arrived from Huddersfield Town.

The 26-year-old will make a foray into European football for the first time in his career which has been spent entirely with Seattle Sounders where he has racked up over 100 appearances whilst winning 39-caps for the United States.

The Verdict

This is a welcome boost for Swansea and should be the first signing of what needs to be a busy last few weeks of the window for Cooper’s side. The win at Barnsley on Saturday cemented their place inside the automatic promotion places and they have done remarkably well so far this term, but the loss of key loanees have to be replaced for them to continue their promotion bid.

Morris is something of an unknown quantity outside of the United States, but he has shown he has quality during his time with Seattle Sounders and he fired in 12 goals and nine assists in 29 appearances last term.

That shows that he has the ability to both create and take chances in the final third and he could add a vital extra spark for Swansea.

Considering it is only going to be a loan signing, it does mean that it is more low risk and Swansea will have the chance to assess his abilities before deciding whether they want to pursue a permanent move for him. The 26-year-old is likely to arrive highly motivated to prove that he can perform within a European league, so this could be a very good move for both parties.
