Swansea City have today taken to Twitter to confirm that goalkeeper Josh Gould has joined non league side Ebbsfleet United on loan until January.

The 23-year-old shot stopper has slowly progressed through the club's academy system and has gone on to make a large amount of appearances at under-23 level since joining from Taff's Well back in the summer of 2018 following a successful trial period.

Gould links up with the National League South side ahead of their first game of the season against Tonbridge Angels this weekend and will be looking to get some much needed first team minutes under his belt.

The keeper has also previously spent time out on loan with the likes of Welsh sides Merthyr and Barry Town in the past and will no doubt be grateful to be handed the opportunity to try his hand in English football.

Originally born in Taunton, Gould is now into the final year of his contract at the Liberty Stadium and will be bidding to earn fresh terms over the next 12 months.

The Verdict

This seems like the right move for Gould to make, as Swansea are well covered in goal due to the presence of both Steven Benda and Ben Hamer.

The 23-year-old is at an age where he really needs to start making waves at first team level and this is certainly a big year for him in his career as he bids to earn a fresh contract with the Welsh side.

He may well find the National League South as a bit of a culture shock but it is something that he will learn to adapt to quickly as he seeks to improve as a keeper.

Non league loans can be the making of some players, so put simply, he has to give this spell between now until January his all if he wants to impress Russell Martin and his staff.
