Swansea are close to agreeing a deal to sign Manchester City defender Joel Latibeaudiere, according to BBC Sport.

The 20-year-old centre-back was a product of City's Academy, but has never played a first-team match under Pep Guardiola - with his only notable appearances for City coming in the EFL Trophy.

Latibeaudiere's first taste of senior action came during a brief loan spell at FC Twente last season, where he scored once in five matches.

BBC Sport claim that the Swans are confident of finalising a deal before Friday's 5pm deadline, which would see Latibeaudiere link-up with Steve Cooper, who was England Under-17 manager when the pair won the Under-17 World Cup together back in 2017.

Latibeaudiere has entered the final 12 months of his contract with City, and is expected to move to the Liberty Stadium on a permanent basis, although he'll leave on a free transfer.

The Verdict

This is an exciting signing for Swansea.

If the South Wales outfit somehow manage to fend off interest from Tottenham for defender Joe Rodon before tomorrow, Cooper will have a host of talented defenders at his disposal.

Rodon sticking around does appear highly unlikely, but Latibeaudiere is a sensible replacement and will be relishing his first major opportunity to showcase his talent in English football after spending the last couple of seasons in City's Academy.
