If you ask any Swansea City fan who their standout player has been this season the majority will be saying the same name over and over again.

That name is Connor Roberts, with the youngster playing a vital role in their promotion challenge this season, as they target an immediate return to the Premier League.

Swansea are currently just two points adrift of the play-off places and Roberts has been ever-present in the Swansea side.

The full-back's contract situation has been the hot topic of conversation in recent weeks, but Roberts has revealed to Wales Online that he is focused on matters on the pitch for the time being:

"I've got representatives who will support me off the pitch. That's their job to sort that out for me. At the moment I just concentrate on playing well, whether it be for club or country."

Swans boss Graham Potter revealed in a recent press conference that he is confident that Roberts will sign a new deal with the club and insists that the defender is enjoying his football with the Championship club this season:

"I’m not worried, it’s part of the process and Connor is happy here. He’s enjoying his football here and sees his future here. It’s about making sure everything is right for both parties."

Roberts and his Swansea teammates will be hoping to continue their promotion push this season when they host league-leaders Norwich City after the international break.

The Verdict

Offering Roberts a new deal in the near future should be top of Swansea's to-do list.

Roberts has been key to Swansea's success this season, and if they are to challenge for promotion this season, then they will need to look to resolve his long-term future with the club as quickly as possible.

If they don't sort his contract situation out before January then they risk losing him to a Championship rival, which would come as a huge blow to their promotion bid.
