Swansea City manager Graham Potter has described former defender Angel Rangel as a fantastic servant for the club ahead of his return to the Liberty on Saturday, report the club's official website.

The Spaniard's new club, Queens Park Rangers, travel to Wales for what will be his first return to the club he spent 11 years with since leaving in January.

“Angel was a fantastic servant of Swansea City and he is very well respected,” Potter told the club's website.

“It’s great to see him playing football because I know he wants to play until his late 30s.

“Obviously we hope he will do that and we wish him all the best with QPR, aside from this Saturday of course."

Rangel made over 360 appearances for the Swans after arriving from Spanish side Terrassa in 2007 and experienced winning the League Cup, the Championship play-offs and promotion from League One in his time with the club.

His new side, QPR head into Saturday's match having turned their season around after a disastrous start in which they lost their first four matches including a 7-1 thrashing at West Brom.

They went four games unbeaten and picked up three wins before last weekend's narrow 1-0 loss to Norwich City at Loftus Road and will be hopeful of getting back on track against the Swans.

The verdict

It would be impossible for Potter to say anything negative about Rangel and his time at Swansea.

If he did there is a good chance he would have been hounded out of the club by fans who absolutely adore the Spanish defender.

Rangel is a model professional, however, and will undoubtedly be able to control his emotions when back at the his old stomping ground.
