Norwich City have had a disappointing season, after being backed by many for a swift return to the Premier League before 2016/17 got under way.

After a good start to the season, which saw the Canaries among the league leaders after the opening few months, the wheels fell off and Norwich slipped down the table.

Norwich's play-off hopes are more or less over, despite being one of the favourites to win automatic promotion in pre-season.

This is a result of several months of inconsistency and poor performances from the Norfolk based club.

The horrendous run of form than saw the Canaries lose 5-1 to Sheffield Wednesday, as well as defeats away to Rotherham United and Burton Albion, led to the sacking of Alex Neil who guided them to the top flight in 2015.

Alan Irvine has taken caretaker charge and has remained unbeaten in his first two games, against Blackburn and Barnsley, but it's likely a new man will be in the dugout for next season.

Here's two stars that have come out of nowhere this season, impressing in a Norwich shirt...

Jacob Murphy

Despite a poor season overall, Jacob Murphy has enjoyed his best season in a Canaries shirt, making 37 appearances in all competitions.

Murphy has turned out 34 times in the league for Norwich City this season, scoring 9 Championship goals, as well as a goal in a 6-1 victory over former club Coventry in the EFL Cup.

The youngster has been an impressive player for Norwich this season.

The 22-year-old has had numerous loan spells with Football League clubs before being given a chance with the Canaries this season.

Whoever Norwich's manager is next season, they'll definitely want to keep Jacob Murphy as he is a great player to have in the side.

Josh Murphy

Another Norwich youngster who has impressed this season is Jacob's twin brother Josh.

Josh Murphy, however, has had slightly less game time than his brother, making 21 league appearances this season.

The winger has scored 3 goals in all competitions in 2016/17, including a goal against Premier League side Everton as Norwich knocked the Toffees out of the EFL Cup in September.

The youngster also bagged 5 goals in the EFL Trophy, scoring a hat-trick against Barnet in a 5-0 win for Norwich Under 23s.

Both the Murphy twins look to be exciting prospects for Norwich City and during the 2016/17 campaign they have both looked good.
