Stoke City are in advanced talks to sign Burnley striker Sam Vokes in a deal that could send Peter Crouch in the opposite direction, according to reports to Daily Telegraph writer John Percy.

Potters boss Nathan Jones is looking to reshape his squad ahead of the last few months of the Sky Bet Championship campaign, with Vokes emerging as a transfer target.

The 29-year old has fallen behind the likes of Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood at Turf Moor, and has been limited to just 10 league starts for Sean Dyche's men this season.

Reports claim that whilst the two clubs are still struggling to negotiate a fee, the Potters are in advanced talks to sign the Welsh international, in a deal that could see Stoke striker Peter Crouch move to Burnley.

The 38-year old signed for the Staffordshire club from Tottenham Hotspur in 2011, and has since scored 62 goals in over 260 games for the Potters, during an seven-and-a-half year stay at the bet365 Stadium.

Stoke currently sit 15th in the Sky Bet Championship table, after a 2-0 home defeat to Preston North End at the weekend.

The Verdict

I think Vokes would be a very good signing for Stoke if the deal goes through.

He's a proven goalscorer and would add a different dimension to the Potters attack, and would be a real handful at Championship level.

Losing Crouch wouldn't be too big of a blow - of course his height is useful when the chips are down in the latter stages of a game, but he's now 38 and is also likely to be on decent wages.
