Aston Villa are set to miss out on a deal for French star Harold Moukoudi after he opted to remain with Le Harve, according to Football Insider.

The 20-year old was widely tipped to join Villa today, with talks having already been held at their training ground. It has been suggested he was flown into the country on a private jet, such was their desire to seal a deal.

However, the player has now seemingly done a U-turn and decided to stay put for the time being, leaving Villa desperately searching for alternatives with just a few hours to go.

The sticking point is thought to be guaranteed first team football, something his has at Le Harve but may not have found as easy at Villa.

West Ham United and Crystal Palace have also been linked with Moukoudi this summer, but neither can offer the football he needs for his development. The defender is one of the hottest young players in France at the moment, having represented his country through to U20 level.

The Verdict

This is unusual, a young player looking to his own development rather than his wage packet. If a private jet hasn't turned his head, what will?

It may be a blow for Villa, but it demonstrates what a cool head he has on his shoulders. That bodes well for the future. Expect more movement in January as the Premier League clubs, and Villa, try again.
