According to the Daily Mail, Bolton Wanderers’ Phil Parkinson has emerged as a surprise contender to replace Garry Monk at Leeds United, with Andrea Radrizzani an admirer of the 49-year old.

Radrizzani, who is just weeks into his tenure as Leeds’ chairman, is on the lookout for a new head-coach, following Monk’s shock decision to hand in his resignation at Elland Road towards the end of May.

A number of names have been linked with the vacancy, including Aitor Karanka and Claudio Ranieri, but reports suggest the duo are not under consideration by Radrizzani and Leeds.

Parkinson has now emerged as a surprise contender, with his recent success at Bolton bringing him to the attentions of Radrizzani.

The 49-year old took over at the Macron Stadium last summer, and led Bolton back to the Sky Bet Championship at the first time of asking, as they finished runners-up to Sheffield United in League One.

Bolton won 25 of their 46 League One fixtures last season, and despite finishing 14-points behind champions, Sheffield United, the Trotters boasted that best defence in the division, having only conceded 36 goals.

Parkinson has previously enjoyed a successful spell in West Yorkshire, helping Bradford City to promotion via the League Two play-offs in 2013, as well as to the League Cup final in the same year.
