Matej Vydra’s move to Leeds United is off, with the Derby County forward against joining a club that finished lower than the Rams in the Sky Bet Championship last season.

It has emerged that Vydra’s proposed move to Leeds is off, after the Czech forward failed to agree personal terms at Elland Road.

Rob Dorsett from Sky Sports have taken to Twitter to confirm that Vydra’s move to Leeds is off, also explaining that the 26-year-old didn’t want to join a club who finished lower than Derby in the Championship last season.

Vydra’s goalscoring exploits left him as the Championship’s top goalscorer, as he led Gary Rowett’s side to sixth and into promotion contention.

Whilst the Rams took on Fulham in the play-off semi-final, Leeds finished 13th, way below expectation levels at Elland Road.

It does appear that Leeds have moved on quickly from Vydra, however, with reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post yesterday confirming that Patrick Bamford is due for a medical today.

The Middlesbrough forward is expected to arrive at Elland Road after Leeds agreed a £7m fee with their Championship rivals for the ex-Chelsea trainee.

The Verdict

The deal has dragged on too long and Vydra’s next destination will not be Elland Road.

It is a surprise about his reluctance to sign for Leeds due to their league position last season, as you’d expect a coach of Marcelo Bielsa’s reputation to be enough to swing a deal.

However, now seems like the time for all parties to move on from what has been a frustrating deal to complete.
