Middlesbrough are on the hunt to find a new manager, with the club opting not to renew Tony Pulis' contract at the end of this season.

It means that they'll be hoping to have a new boss in charge in the near future, and one surprise candidate has reportedly voiced his eagerness to take charge at The Riverside.

Gabriel Batistuta ended his playing career in 2015, and is seemingly keen to make the step into football management at the earliest of opportunities.

An unnamed source revealed to the Hartlepool Mail that the Argentinian legend has discussed the potential of a move to England to take up his first managerial job.

"Gabi has a fantastic record both as a world leading player and technical director.

"He has discussed the potential of a move to England as his first managerial appointment and he is very keen to work with the right club next season.

"The future for Gabi is huge having completed his coaching badges last year and any club in England would be privileged to have him as their manager."

It remains to be seen as to whether the club will approach the 50-year-old after he expressed his interest in the managerial vacancy at Middlesbrough, with Jonathan Woodgate believed to still be the frontrunner to succeed Pulis.

The Verdict:

What an exciting appointment this could be!

He doesn't have any managerial experience which will obviously be a concern for Middlesbrough supporters, although his experience in football speaks for itself.

He's a huge name and it could be a gamble worth taking for Boro ahead of next season.
