Leeds United's hunt for a striker has made this summer an extra-stressful one for their fans as Marcelo Bielsa looks to build a squad capable of promotion.

So far they have missed out on Matej Vydra and Abel Hernandez and with the transfer window closing sooner than usual, things are getting serious at Elland Road.

The latest frontman they have shown an interest in is Turkish side Kasimpasa's Mbaye Diagne, with the Senegalese man scoring 12 times in 17 league games last season.

According to Turkish Football, the Whites have already begun talks with Diagne's representatives but face competition from fellow Championship side Hull City and Reading also reportedly interested.

So far Bielsa has brought in just two new faces in the form of Chelsea loanees Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman, with more needing to be done if his side are to launch a serious promotion push.

But would Diagne actually be a good signing for Leeds?

No for me. I really don't think Leeds need anymore foreign strikers with no experience in the Championship.

They've been burned before, several times, surely they've learned a lesson by now?

After targeting Assombalonga, Kodjia, Hernandez and Vydra, Leeds fans will be underwhelmed by this transfer rumour.

But Diagne has a good goal scoring record in Turkey and his 6ft 3in frame suggests he could adapt to cope with the physical demands in England.

However, the Senegalese centre-forward would be yet another risk and Leeds cannot afford that after signing too many misfiring forward last summer.

The 26-year-old clearly knows where the back of the net is, notching 12 goals in 17 appearances in the Super Lig in Turkey last season.

However, do Leeds really need to gamble on another striker?

The Whites need a proven Championship goalscorer, and this is a deal that could be worth a punt, but Leeds shouldn't be taking punts if they want promotion.

The last thing Leeds need leading their line on the first day of the season is an unknown quantity.

Diagne could well be brilliant. He has a decent record in Turkey and is the sort of physical presence who could thrive in the Championship.

But what Leeds need now more than ever is a proven goalscorer.
