Premier League side Southampton are the latest club to be in the hunt for Leeds United's teenage sensation Jack Clarke, according to Calciomercato.

The 18-year-old has broken into the Leeds first team of late and has shone with a series of competent and exciting displays. He began the season as part of the Under 23 set up, but after making his debut against Brentford in October he's not looked back.

He has 12 Championship outings to his name, 11 from the bench, and has bagged two goals. He struck the first of three that turned around a 2-0 deficit at Villa Park on December 23rd, then hit one as Leeds were beaten 4-2 at Nottingham Forest.

His form and tender age have ensured he's fallen onto the radar of Premier League side Southampton, currently battling against the drop in the Premier League. Would it be a good move for them, and for Clarke?

Our team of Football League experts discuss...

Jacob Potter

"It's the ideal signing for the Saints.

"They face a considerable amount of competition to fend of interest from the likes of Man City, but they can offer Clarke first-team assurances, which could see them win the battle for him.

"His pace and trickery is exactly what Southampton need to stay in the Premier League this season."

Louie Chandler

"He would be fantastic for the Saints.

"This is the exact sort of signing Southampton should be making, the only question will be whether they can afford the sizeable transfer fee Leeds will no doubt want.

"The way Clarke has emerged at Elland Road this season has a wiff of the Dele Alli about it and he is somebody who deserves to be highly sought after."

Alfie Burns

“He’d be a great addition for the Saints.

“Clarke is a player with real skill and someone who can be really influential in the final third.

“He’s showing that for Leeds, who would be reluctant to lose him.

“From the player’s point of view, though, surely he can do better?”
