It’s been reported by ESPN recently that Leeds United are considering a move for Liverpool striker Danny Ings as they look to bolster their promotion challenge this season.
The men from Elland Road have started well and will fancy their chances of keeping that up and you’d have to argue that signing someone as sharp as Ings – when fit – would go a long way to helping them seal a Premier League return.
However, couldn’t you argue that Aston Villa should be looking seriously into signing the seemingly surplus to requirements Reds star?
For sure, Villa have attacking talent. Jonathan Kodjia, Scott Hogan and Keinan Davis are all good options to have but, with Davis a young player and set to have off days as many do and question marks persisting over Hogan, Kodjia really is the only guaranteed source of goals.
And with Villa looking increasingly like a side that wants to use two forwards up top, that is where Ings comes into the fray.
A striker who is more than capable of being a one or in a pair, Ings possesses the movement and quality that would fire Villa right into the title mix.
He’s still quite young, too, and after a serious number of injuries he’s got the hunger, drive and point to prove that would ensure he’s always going to try and deliver the goods.
Villa have done well to bring an air of grit and fight back into their side, and Ings’ determination to relaunch his career would complement that perfectly.
