After a promising start to the 2016/17 campaign things have begun to unravel for Dean Smith’s Brentford, with Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing at Norwich City the latest setback to the Bees’ ambitions.

It was October 27th when Smith’s charges last tasted victory and there is a real urgency for the West London-based club to stop the rot and get back on track.

Brentford boast an impressive squad on paper but ex-Walsall boss Smith will undoubtedly be looking to bolster his ranks during the January transfer window.

Given the tight nature of the Championship the Bees need to arrest their current slide to avoid becoming embroiled in a relegation battle and some more firepower could be called for in January.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke looks at four strikers who could make the switch to Griffin Park during the forthcoming transfer window.

Chuba Akpom

The Arsenal youngster spent time on loan with Brentford earlier in his career and although that particular spell with the Bees wasn’t successful, he is a much better player these days.

The Gunners are likely to let the 21-year-old continue to develop away from the Emirates Stadium for the second half of the season, which could open the door for Brentford.

Akpom only managed three goals during a loan spell with Hull City last season, although more frequent opportunities to play at Griffin Park could see his goal ratio improve.

Leonardo Ulloa

The Leicester City man has played just 92 minutes of Premier League football this season and a loan move away from the King Power Stadium could be good for the player.

A proven Championship talisman, Ulloa could be just the striker which Brentford needs in order to raise current morale.

The Argentinean-born player has a lot more to offer than being sat on Leicester’s bench and the Bees would be wise to make a move.

Jerome Sinclair

Since making the switch to Watford from Liverpool during the summer, striker Sinclair hasn’t really played for the club and has featured just once in the Premier League.

Sinclair’s burst of pace and eye for goal would make him a shrewd signing for any club in the Championship and the Bees would do well to pounce.

Dean Smith seems to like the concept of letting younger players shine in his team and Sinclair could learn a lot playing under the Bees’ boss.

Frazier Campbell

The Crystal Palace striker looks set to leave the Eagles during the summer having fallen way down the pecking order in Alan Pardew’s squad.

Campbell has experience of winning promotion from the Championship and his expertise could be a valuable asset for a relatively young squad at Griffin Park.

Palace will certainly let the striker leave during the transfer window and their desire to get him off the books could ensure a relatively cheap deal too.

Brentford fans, would you welcome any of these four to Griffin Park? Which other striker should the club sign? Let us know in the comments below!!!
