Nottingham Forest shocked the entire Championship on Friday evening by defeating big spenders Newcastle United at the City Ground.

The Reds pulled off a shock 2-1 win and missed two penalty kicks, as the Magpies were reduced to 10 men before the half-time interval.

Goals from Nicklas Bendtner and an own goal from ex-Forest defender Jamaal Lascelles saw Philippe Montanier’s men win their third game on the bounce, with things starting to look up for the East Midlands-based side.

Forest have now risen to 13th in the Championship and with January on the horizon, the club will undoubtedly be looking towards a string of recruits to try and push them even further up the table.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke has a look at four strikers who Forest could look to secure during the month of January.

Gary Hooper

With Sheffield Wednesday reportedly chasing the signature of Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes, it could leave the former Celtic man surplus to requirements at Hillsborough.

Hooper has been a target for Forest previously and his rather decent goal ratio for the Owls last season could make him a good signing for the club.

The 28-year-old still has plenty of years left ahead of him and with Forest somewhat short of proven Championship goalscorers, he could be a wise addition for Montanier to consider.

Josh Morris

It is debatable just how much Forest boss Montanier knows about League One, but the form of Scunthorpe United man Josh Morris has hopefully caught his attention.

The ex-Blackburn Rovers man has been the star attraction in the third tier this season and a move to play in the Championship, or even the Premier League, could be on the cards next month.

Morris is only 25-years-old and his performances this season have done enough to suggest that he can go onto have a fruitful career playing Championship football.

Ashley Fletcher

The 21-year-old West Ham United striker has not featured for the first-team much since his summer switch from Manchester United, with a loan move looking likely for January.

Fletcher spent last season scoring goals in League One for Barnsley and his form during his spell in South Yorkshire alerted several Championship clubs towards the youngster.

The former United man would be a quality addition to the Forest squad and he could possibly for a prolific partnership with Britt Assombalonga.

Dave Nugent

The Middlesbrough striker comes with a proven pedigree of playing for successful Championship clubs, winning promotion from the division on several occasions.

At 31-years-old Nugent is unlikely to become a mainstay in a Premier League side and he could seek to drop back into the Championship during January.

After a glut of summer signings from overseas, the Reds could look to call upon Nugent to provide an injection of league expertise into their squad by trying to secure a January deal.

Nottingham Forest fans, would you welcome any of these four to the club? Which of these should the club prioritise?
