Derby are in the middle of what looks like a miraculous turnaround under new manager Steve McClaren.

Following a miserable start to the season and sacking manager Nigel Pearson, the Rams look to be firmly on their way back to promotion contention.

If there is one thing though holding them back, it is a lack of goals, especially from their central strikers. Big money signing Matej Vydra has yet to hit any sort of form, and McClaren would be wise to look for additional forwards in January.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor looks at FOUR strikers Derby could look to sign in the January transfer window…

Ademola Lookman

Charlton youngster Lookman is one of the hottest properties in English football at the moment, with a host of clubs fighting for his signature.

Derby are a club who nurture young talent well, and Lookman could do a lot worse than sign for the Rams.

If Derby did manage to sign him, then it would be a major statement of intent to the rest of the clubs who are lurking around the young striker.

Zach Clough

Although not directly a focal point of an attack, Clough has enough talent to play up front and across all the forward positions if needed.

Clough is a top young player and he is excelling in League One with Bolton this term too.

Derby would be wise to swoop for the youngster, who would add guile and ability to unlock defences to the Rams’ line-up.

Ashley Barnes

Ashley Barnesm

Burnley man Barnes is not first choice at Turf Moor, sitting behind Sam Vokes and Andre Gray in the pecking order.

Barnes though is a class act and has come back from numerous injuries to still look the part when he plays.

Following the loss of Chris Martin in the summer, Barnes would be a perfect fit for the Rams if they could pull off his signing.

Dominic Solanke

solanke

Following the success of Tammy Abraham’s loan at Bristol City, Derby might well look at his Chelsea teammate Solanke.

The youngster has already impressed Antonio Conte and has made the Chelsea bench on numerous occasions this term.

A spell with Derby would do him the world of good though, and he might well benefit long term from some first team football under Steve McClaren.
