West Bromwich Albion have a 9% chance of being relegated from the Championship this season, according to FiveThirtyEight's prediction model.

The Baggies head into this afternoon's clash with QPR at Loftus Road sitting 23rd – two points and just one place off the bottom of the table.

New head coach Carlos Corberan claimed his first victory against Blackpool at The Hawthorns in midweek and will hope to build on that in west London today.

Albion began the season with promotion aspirations after a fairly impressive summer window but a dismal start means they're scrapping at the wrong end of the table and sacked Steve Bruce last month.

Corberan's eventual target will be to steer the Baggies back to the Premier League but first things first he has to focus on keeping the club in the Championship – a battle he's fought before and won at Huddersfield Town.

The good news for West Brom is despite currently being in the relegation zone, FiveThirtyEight's prediction model has indicated that they have a 9% chance of getting relegated in 2022/23. That's the joint-10th highest and joint-15th lowest alongside Sunderland.

Huddersfield Town (50%), Rotherham United (46%), Hull City (44%), and Wigan Athletic (34%) are the four sides with the highest probability of getting relegated this term.

Given how open the Championship looks this season and what Nottingham Forest achieved last term, some at Albion will believe that promotion is still possible.

According to FiveThirtyEight's Championship prediction model, which is based on an adapted version of ESPN's Soccer Power Index and includes data from more than 550,000 matches going back to 1888, Albion have a 6% chance of getting promoted to the Premier League this season. That's the joint-13th highest and the joint-11th lowest in the division along with Birmingham City.

Burnley (59%), Sheffield United (50%), Watford (38%), and Norwich City (31%) are the four sides with the highest probability of getting promoted this term.

Corberan's side also have a <1% chance of winning the Championship and an 11% chance of reaching the play-offs in 2022/23.
