Sunderland are not interested in re-signing former striker Mikael Mandron this summer, despite reports claiming that the Black Cats were eyeing up a move for the forward.

That's according to Sunderland Echo, who understand that reports claiming Mandron is on the Black Cats' radar are wide of the mark.

Football Insider claim that the 25-year-old is wanted by the North East club, with his contract at Gillingham coming to an end next month meaning that he would be available to sign on a free transfer.

Which Sunderland manager signed each of these 15 players?

The Frenchman has scored six goals in all competitions this season, with five goals coming in 23 League One matches including two against Sunderland in their most recent outing.

Sunderland are no strangers to Mandron - the striker came through the ranks at the Stadium of Light, making three senior appearances before joining Eastleigh on a permanent deal in 2016.

He has since played for Wigan and Colchester United, before sealing a move to Steve Evans' side in the summer.

Sunderland just outside of the League One play-off places on goal difference, with the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign in limbo.

The Verdict

This should be good news for Sunderland fans to hear.

I don't believe that Mandron is a prolific goalscorer at this level, whereas Sunderland need a striker who can come in and hit the ground running under Phil Parkinson.

The likes of Charlie Wyke, Kyle Lafferty and Will Grigg have struggled for goals this season, so they need something who can increase competition in that area of the pitch.
