One of Sunderland’s newest arrivals Marc Wilson has stated that he hopes to “get the team back to where they should be”.

The 30-year-old joined on a free transfer from struggling Premier League club Bournemouth, putting pen to paper on a one-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

Formerly of Portsmouth, where he was captain before joining Stoke, never got a chance at consistent first team football for Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth since his arrival in 2016’s summer transfer window.

He was then sent out on loan to West Brom in January of this year, with his Bournemouth career never getting off the ground.

Sunderland have endured a tough start to life in the Championship following their relegation last year, with just one win from their opening five matches in the league putting them in 19th place on just five points.

The Verdict

Wilson has proved throughout his career, especially during his time with Portsmouth and Stoke, that he can be a solid and versatile defender.

Dropping down a level into the Championship is going to provide him with the opportunity to get his career back on track after a tough time with Bournemouth.

Despite not fixing their striker woes before the deadline, fans should be very happy with the signing of Marc Wilson.
