Page 60 of The Sun's Friday printed edition stated that Sunderland are one of three Championship clubs eyeing a loan move for Derby County's international striker Chris Martin.

Their potential rivals in the race for the Scotsman's signature both made the play-offs last season - Jaap Stam's Reading and Slavisa Jokanovic's Fulham - and Martin was actually on the pitch for the Whites when they lost out on a place in the Wembley showpiece to the Royals.

Martin didn't want to be at the club for the second part of the season and agitated for an early return to Derby and completely ruptured his relationship with the Fulham fans in the process.

He also frustrated Fulham fans with his poor attitude and work rate within games and that is not the kind of player Chris Coleman needs in the relegation dogfight.

Sunderland have had enough players in recent years who do not take responsibility or try hard enough for the shirt and now is the time for young and hungry players with a point to prove.

Martin does not fit into that category at all and while he can put the ball in the net when the opportunity comes along, the rest of his game is not enough for it to be worthwhile Sunderland securing his services - they should stay well clear.

Sunderland fans, do you agree with me or would you like to see Martin join your club for the relegation battle? Let us know in the comments below...
