Relegation threatened Sunderland could be willing to let James Vaughan leave in January, and League One Wigan are leading the chase to capture him.

According to a report in the Sun on Sunday (Print, 31st December 2017), the striker is no longer wanted by manager Chris Coleman as he looks to shake things up and steer his side away from the dropzone in 2018.

Vaughan has struggled for goals and success since making the move to the Mackems as part of the summer influx of players headed by former manager Simon Grayson, and the 29-year-old could well relish the chance at what would be another fresh start for the former Everton youngster.

One sticking point could be Vaughan's wages, with the report claiming that he is earning somewhere around the £15k a week mark at the Stadium of Light, however, the Latics could be willing to pay substantial amount of that while Sunderland supplement the rest.

A deal could well be done in the early weeks of the window as Coleman looks to get his squad set for what is going to be a crucial few months for the north east club.

Sunderland fans, what do you think? Good decision to move Vaughan on? Let us know!
