The League One season may be over but there is plenty to be excited about with the play-offs kicking off this week.

In the second semi-final of the week, Sunderland host Sheffield Wednesday at the Stadium of Light on Friday evening in what should be a fantastic clash.

Sunderland certainly ended the season strongly under boss Alex Neil, going thirteen games unbeaten in the league to end the campaign in 5th place.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday finished fourth in the standings, winning four of their last five league matches.

Both sides are in cracking form going into this one.

Latest team news

A doubt for the match is Nathan Broadhead, in what would be a big blow for Sunderland.

Broadhead has 13 goals in 25 league appearances in an injury hit 2021/22 campaign and hobbled off on the final day of the season in the Black Cats win over Morecambe.

For the home side, there are also question marks over Carl Winchester and Dennis Cirkin’s involvement.

Meanwhile for the visitors, they too are sweating over the fitness of a key player, with captain Barry Bannan set to face a late test of fitness.

Bannan suffered a muscle injury against Portsmouth on the final day and will be assessed ahead of the match.
