It's safe to say that Phil Parkinson hasn't got off to the start he would have originally hoped for with Sunderland.

The newly-appointed boss has won just two games in charge of the Black Cats, and will know that results have to improve at the earliest of opportunities if they're to stand any chance of winning promotion back into the Championship.

It could be an interesting January transfer window for Sunderland, as Parkinson could be tempted to add to his squad in an effort to fire themselves into promotion contention.

One player that Sunderland have previously been interested in signing is Bahlul Mustafazade who currently plays for Azerbaijani side Sabah.

In a recent interview with Azerisport (quotes sourced from Chronicle Live), Mustafazade spoke out on rumours linking him with a move to the Stadium of Light in the future, and insisted that he will consider his options if a formal offer is made to land his signature in the January transfer window.

"Of course. I really want to (move abroad). I can’t name specifically which club. They did not say anything to me, there was no official proposal.

"But for development it is necessary to speak abroad. I am aware of this. If there is such an option, then it must be considered."

Sunderland are next in action on Saturday when they host high-flying Coventry City in what is certain to be a tricky test for Phil Parkinson's side.

The Verdict:

It'll be interesting to see if they go back in for him in the January transfer window.

With the injuries to his defensive line already starting to pile up, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Sunderland make a formal offer for Mustafazade in January.

He would add some experience to the Sunderland defence, and having competition for places is never a bad dilemma to have as a manager.
