Sunderland kicked off their 2020/21 League One campaign with a 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers at the Stadium of Light.

Here we take a look at the latest ongoings transfer-wise at the Mackems...

Aiden McGeady

The Irish winger's departure from Sunderland has become even more inevitable now, following the club's squad number list reveal.

As expected, the 34-year-old does not feature on the list and it suggests that winger is now clearly being lined up for a move away.

However, as of yet, no club has come forward and shown interest in the former Celtic man.

Justin Owolabi-Belewu

Sunderland are among a cluster of clubs who were keen on free-agent defender alongside the likes of Crystal Palace and Chelsea - however, as per All Nigerian Soccer the left-footed centre-back is set to join Italian outfit SPAL.

The defender has been on trial with the Italian side and he is now set to be offered a contract there, subsequently eradicating any chances of the Black Cats securing a deal for the player.

Mateo Bajamich

Sunderland are set to miss out on 21-year-old forward Bajamich, with him set to secure a move to the MLS with Houston Dynamo, as per the Northern Echo.

The Black Cats had reportedly made an offer for the Instituto forward in the region of £500k, however Houston Dynamo came in with a better bid and he now looks to be moving to the American side.

Josh Hawkes

As per TEAMTalk, Phil Parkinson's side have beaten a host of clubs including Newcastle and Leeds United to Hartlepool starlet Josh Hawkes.

The 21-year-old midfielder has become an influential figure in the Hartlepool side and the Black Cats appear to have won the race for the player, who made 22 appearances for the National League side last season.

Sunderland have agreed terms and an official announcement is imminent.
