According to The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 59, July 23, 2017), Sunderland are preparing to up their interest in Brentford’s Ryan Woods, with a £3m bid for the player.

Despite making four summer signings already, Simon Grayson remains keen to strengthen his Sunderland squad ahead of their return to the Sky Bet Championship next month.

James Vaughan and Aiden McGeady have arrived at the Stadium of Light to strengthen attacking options, whilst on-loan Everton duo, Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway, bolster Grayson’s defence.

Attentions are now turning to Brentford midfielder, Woods, with the Black Cats preparing a £3m bid for the 23-year-old.

Woods has gained a wealth of Championship experience over the last two years, becoming a regular at Griffin Park, making 83 league appearances.

Last season, Woods made 43 appearances, and despite failing to score a single goal, the midfielder was influential for Dean Smith’s side, helping them to tenth in the Championship table.

Smith had recently told the media that Brentford were yet to receive any offers for the former Shrewsbury man, but recent reports suggest Sunderland will now up their interest.

Woods’ contract at Griffin Park runs until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.
