According to The Daily Mail, Ben Woodburn's proposed loan move to Sunderland has been put on hold because of the sale of Philippe Coutinho.

Philippe Coutinho has moved from Liverpool to Barcelona in a transfer which sees him become the second most expensive player of all time.

But given Coutinho's departure and an injury to Mo Salah, Jurgen Klopp is worried by his lack of depth in the attacking department.

As a result, Woodburn is being held at Liverpool for now.

Chris Coleman had lined up a swoop for the 18-year-old, having worked with him on the international stage with Wales.

Woodburn was handed his Wales debut by Coleman last year and has already impressed in international football.

Leeds also targeted the teenage talent, who can play as a winger, attacking midfielder or striker.

But Sunderland looked set to land the Wales international before Coutinho's sale held things up.

Sunderland are desperate to bring in new faces because they are currently rooted to the foot of the Championship table.

A deal to bring in Jake Clarke-Salter on loan looks set to go ahead but they lost their top scorer Lewis Grabban - with 12 goals to his name - after he told the club he did not want to play for them any more and he returned to parent club Bournemouth early.

The Verdict

Sunderland will be hoping that this deal still goes ahead because Woodburn is an exciting talent.

He has the ability to beat his man and provide goals and assists.

Sunderland vitally need a player of his abilities to drag them out of the relegation zone.
