Stewart Donald has agreed a deal to sell Sunderland, according to a report by The Guardian.

The Black Cats owner has stuck an agreement to offload the club to a consortium led my minority shareholder Juan Sartori and Kyril Louis-Dreyfus - the 22-year-old son of former Marseille owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus.

The deal will see Donald remain a shareholder with the former Eastleigh chief set to keep 15% ownership of the club.

A deal has been in the pipelines for several months with Donald actively looking to sell the club since early in 2020.

It was only in July when the club entered a period of exclusivity with a mystery buyer after receiving proof of funds with regards to a takeover.

Sartori is the key figure in such a deal with the Uruguayan businessman set to increase his 20% stake in the club to a controlling stake.

After months of discussions and due diligence the report claims that Sartori's consortium made an offer at the start of November which was accepted at the start of this week.

While Sunderland have declined to comment to the Guardian over such a deal, it's claimed that the takeover could be completed in as little as two weeks providing no major obstacles occur.

This is big, big news for Sunderland supporters.

The reign of Stewart Donald has been a disaster as far as the fans are concerned and now the majority are keen to see the club in new hands.

Juan Sartori is not a new name but with his consortium set to take a controlling stake it will signal the start of a new era on Wearside - one which the whole area will be really looking forward to.
