Sunderland star emerges as controversial target for Newcastle United

According to The Sun, Newcastle United want to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Sunderland were officially relegated from the Premier League this weekend after losing 1-0 to Bournemouth and they will be bracing themselves for a number of high profile exits.

Newcastle United, on the other hand, are on their way up.

They won promotion to the Premier League earlier this month and will be looking to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Jordan Pickford is one name on their list as Newcastle prepare to compete with Everton, West Ham, Manchester City and Arsenal for the talented 23-year-old.

The young England international has been one of the few bright sparks this season for Sunderland with some impressive displays between the sticks.

The Sun believe that Newcastle are willing to pay Pickford £75,000 per week to cross the divide but the Sunderland stopper has previously said that he would never play for Newcastle.
