Sunderland will be looking to build on their remarkable comeback last weekend as they face Brentford this time out in the Championship.

The Black Cats showed that they've still got some fight left in this season's survival battle against Bristol City as they came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 at Ashton Gate and now they need to build on that against the Bees.

For sure, if they keep the fight up they've a good chance of survival and Sunderland player Adam Matthews knows better than most that putting up a fight eventually gets you somewhere.

Despite injuries and loans away, the full-back is starting to play regularly for the club - though he was injured last weekend - and he has suggested he'll be back sooner rather than later for some key games.

Indeed, as quoted by Chronicle Live, he is aiming for the game this weekend but if not he'll be ready for a crucial clash with Bolton:

I would have liked to have played at Bristol, but injuries can’t be helped.

“I trained on Wednesday, and I will train on Friday, so hopefully I will be back in the squad this weekend – and, if not, I will be fine for Tuesday [when Sunderland travel to Bolton].”

The Verdict

Matthews has become a valuable member of the side this season and having him back in the squad is bound to be a boost after missing him last weekend.

Chris Coleman might not want to rush him but it seems as though the player feels ready to go as soon as possible and that is key ahead of some crucial games.
