Sunderland fans have been met with the disappointing news that Jordan Pickford looks set to depart this summer, after a stunning season in the Premier League with them.

The Black Cats will take enormous solace in the fact that they'll see a payment of £30 million from Everton for their star man, allowing them great manoeuvrability in the transfer window this summer as they hope to rebuild their squad and mount a Premier League assault.

The club have been left without a manager after David Moyes left his role as boss at the Stadium of Light.

Whoever they appoint will need to find a goalkeeper with the potential to replace Pickford, who was fantastic last year.

And one player the Mackems should definitely look to bring in is Barnsley goalkeeper Adam Davies.

Davies enjoyed a stunning season with Barnsley last year, who, as a club, exceeded all expectations of a relegation dog fight and actually looked like outsiders for the play-offs at times during 2016/17.

They had many players who impressed individually who have already departed, like Conor Hourihane and Sam Winnall, but a man who didn't get quite the plaudits he deserved was Davies in goal.

Davies is a like for like replacement for Pickford as he is young (only 24-years-old) and English, as well as being a mean shot stopper, making the most saves out of any Championship goalkeeper this season.

Given the fees Barnsley have commanded for their other star players, Davies would appear to command a modest fee in comparison to other stand out Championship players, and this move would be extremely smart for Sunderland.
