Sunderland will be preparing for life in League One and will be heavily favoured to seal a return to the Championship at the first attempt under new manager Jack Ross.
The Black Cats have had a miserable few seasons culminating in successive relegations, and there could well be huge pressure on the club next season to make sure a third on the bounce is not in the pipeline.
Ross, taking his first job in England, will be keen to bring in some new players and weed out the rubbish in his squad, and we at FLW think the club can indeed attract a few quality players to join the ranks at the Stadium of Light and fire them back into the second tier.
One such player we think would be a good addition is Derby County midfielder Jacob Butterfield, who spent the second half of last season on loan with Sheffield Wednesday.
His spell with the Owls was poorly received though, and his form was patchy to say the least.
However, there is still a quality player in there, and a spell down in League One, playing week in week out could well revitalise the former Norwich and Barnsley man.
Sunderland need quality, and Butterfield would fit the mould perfectly as the club look to make an instant return to the second tier.
Black Cats fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know!
