Sunderland will be looking to immediately return to the Championship after a disastrous last two seasons has seen them slip down the leagues and into League One.

The Black Cats sacked both Chris Coleman and Simon Grayson over the course of last campaign, and new man at the helm Jack Ross will no doubt be seeking some assurances that he will have the time to build something at the Stadium of Light.

Indeed, a massive summer squad overhaul is expected at the club, and there are a number of Sunderland players who will surely be on their way out of the club.

However, the club and Ross will also want to be looking at bringing in new faces, and we at FLW think that Middlesbrough winger Marvin Johnson could well be the perfect sort of signing for the Black Cats.

Johnson has not really settled into a first team role with Boro following his success with Oxford, and he might well be made for League One.

Quick, tricky, and a threat when trying to get down either wing, Johnson might well reap the rewards of a full season of first team football with a club like Sunderland, playing regular football in front of a big stadium.

Valued at £1.8m by Transfermarkt, Sunderland might well fancy their chances of taking him off their neighbours' hands, and he could well turn out to be a shrewd capture if a deal can indeed be concluded.

Sunderland fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
