After a torrid season full of poor results and performances, Sunderland Football Club have been relegated from the Premier League.

The Wearsider's never looked like escaping the drop, and David Moyes has led the side from the North East back to the Sky Bet Championship.

Despite the demotion, Moyes has been given the backing of the club’s board, and is set to lead the Black Cats into the new season in the Football League.

Sunderland will need to rebuild over the summer, as a number of first team players are set to depart the club following the club’s relegation, including talismanic England striker, Jermain Defoe.

Moyes should have a significant transfer and wage budget to work with once players are off the books, and will look to put together a side capable of bouncing back at the first time of asking.

Top of the former Manchester United boss’ shopping list will be a goalscorer, and one with a proven record of Championship success should be a key criteria in his search.

One man who has proven invaluable to his side in terms of goals, and kept his side up on the final day of the season, is Nottingham Forest’s Britt Assombalonga.

The former Peterborough man has fought hard to come back from potentially career-threatening knee problems, and has rediscovered his form in front of goal upon his return.

Two goals on the final day against Ipswich helped to keep Forest up, and the player has a proven record in the division.

It would take a sizeable fee to convince the Reds to part with their star man, but Sunderland will have cash, and taking a punt on Assombalonga will add serious firepower to their squad.

In the right team, the player has the potential to be a 25-goal a season man, and David Moyes would do well to add the player to his attacking line up.
