Sunderland are hopeful of securing a permanent deal for Wigan Athletic midfielder Max Power before the 5pm deadline today.

The Black Cats have had an extremely busy window, with new boss Jack Ross making major changes to his squad after the club suffered successive relegations.

And, according to Roker Report, they are closing in on the signing of Power, who is on his way to Wearside for a medical after the two clubs agreed a fee last night.

The 25-year old has spent the past three years at Wigan, winning promotion from League One twice in that period.

Power was a key player for the Latics as they won the title in the third-tier in the previous campaign, scoring five goals in 40 games and impressing in midfield.

However, he was left out of their opening game of the season, the 3-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, and could now be set for a move.

The report also states that the Wearside outfit saw off competition from an unnamed club to secure this deal.

The Verdict

This would be a fantastic signing for Sunderland as Power has shown over the years that he is a fine player in League One.

He will bring real quality to Ross' midfield and is a major upgrade on what they have.

Now, it's about closing the deal as it would be a real coup for the club and top off what has been a very good window for the Black Cats.
