According to reports in the French media, Sunderland are interested in signing Jonathan Gradit.

Sunderland are among a number of clubs keeping their tabs on Tours FC defender Jonathan Gradit, according to French media outlet Ma Ligue 2.

Jonathan Gradit currently plies his trade for Tours FC in the second tier of French football.

Gradit came through the ranks at Bordeaux before joining Tours on a free transfer in 2014.

He has played over 100 games in Ligue 2 and featured in thirty one matches last season, contributing three goals.

Jonathan Gradit stands at 6ft 1in and predominantly plays as a centre back.

The Frenchman is also capable of playing at right back, where he has filled in on a number of occasions in the past.

After four years with Tours, Jonathan Gradit looks like he might finally leave this summer and he is attracting interest from Sunderland.

Recently relegated from the Premier League, Sunderland have released John O'Shea, Joleon Lescott and Jan Kirchhoff while Lamine Kone is also expected to depart.

This means that centre back is a priority this summer and Gradit has been identified as a target.

The Black Cats face competition from a number of French clubs though.

Several clubs from the top two tiers of French football are interested in signing the 24-year-old defender, including Racing Club de Lens, who have already made contact in an attempt to rush this deal through.
