Championship outfit Sunderland could be set to make a move for out of favour Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes, according to a report in the Daily Star Sunday.

The Scottish international has struggled for the Owls since making a big money move to the club from Middlesbrough, and now new Black Cats gaffer Chris Coleman is keen on adding the former Blackburn man to the ranks at the Stadium of Light.

The Owls have just this morning sacked manager Carlos Carvalhal, meaning a clearout of players could soon follow suit if any potential new manager is to have funds and spaces in the squad available to fill.

Rhodes is one of the top earners at the club, and any move to Sunderland would no doubt have to be a loan deal until at least the end of the season, with the North East club in no position to be paying the sort of fee the Owls parted ways with 12 months ago.

Sunderland have steadily improved under Coleman but they know more additions are needed to fend off any potential relegation threat, and Rhodes could well be the ideal sort of signing for the club.

Sunderland fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
