Jack Ross could be set for disappoint as Sunderland manager as Championship side Wigan Athletic look to join the race to sign highly-rated Bradford striker Charlie Wyke.

According to Alan Nixon, the Latics are looking to raise the funds needed to sign Wyke, who has been a long term summer target for Sunderland.

The Black Cats are looking to make some moves in the market this week after completing the signing of former Sheffield Wednesday defender Glen Loovens this week, but manager Jack Ross will be disappointed to hear of Wigan's interest in his number on target.

Wyke was the star man for the Bantams last season as he once again showed his form in front of goal, however, he is currently injured, after lasting only six minutes during a pre-season friendly with Sheffield United last week.

However, Sunderland manager Ross will be hoping to lure of regular first team football and a move back to the north east for Wyke, who is keen on a move away from Yorkshire if a deal can indeed be struck.

Sunderland are looking to bounce back from their relegation to League One last season, and will see Wyke as the ideal signing to fire in the goals to get them back in the Championship.

Sunderland fans, what do you make of this news? Would Wyke choose Wigan over you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
