According to The Sunderland Echo, Sunderland have agreed a fee with Besiktas for the sale of Jeremain Lens.

A deal which sees Jeremain Lens leave Sunderland and join Besiktas is likely to be finalised in the next 48 hours.

After two seasons with the club, Lens looks like he's set to secure a permanent exit from the Stadium of Light.

Lens joined in summer 2015 with high expectations but failed to deliver to those heights.

After scoring four times in 25 matches, the 34-cap Netherlands international moved on loan to Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce, where he impressed.

Lens grabbed four goals and eleven assists for the Turkish side and they were keen on re-signing him this summer.

However, the winger, who can also play up front, is set to move to their rivals Besiktas instead.

Besiktas have agreed a fee for the 29-year-old's services and are expecting to complete the deal within the next couple of days.

The Turkish giants won the Super Lig last season and can offer Lens Champions League football, which makes them a more attractive prospect than Europa League Fenerbahce.

Sunderland have accepted the inevitable departure of the Dutchman, who is set to complete his permanent switch to Turkey.

The Verdict

If Jeremain Lens does not want to play for Sunderland, then they are right to cash in now.

They need to reinvest that money into the squad so that they add some top quality players to aid their promotion bid.
