Sunderland are set to be hit with yet another blow as they could be made to pay £9.2m to Inter Milan, according to the Mirror.

The fee relates to loan flop striker Ricky Alvarez, who joined the club back in 2014, but ultimately failed to impress and was considered a major flop by the club.

However, the loan agreement at the time reportedly included an agreement that the Black Cats would sign the player for around £10m if they club stayed up - which they did.

The news comes as Inter took the case to the Court for Arbitration for Sport, and it appears now that it is Inter who have come out on top in the argument, meaning yet more miserable news for the North East club.

Sunderland are currently in a bit of turmoil, with no manager in place and an impending takeover struggling to get over the line. The club also sold it's biggest talent this week when Jordan Pickford moved to Everton for a sum in the region of £25m.

This latest blow regarding Alvarez will no doubt be another knock back for Sunderland fans, who will be hoping the club can turn a corner before pre-season begins in a few weeks time.
