Sunderland continued their impressive start to the new season coming back from a goal down to secure the three points against AFC Wimbledon.

Jack Ross recalled Lee Cattermole to the starting XI, and a double from the midfielder was enough to keep the Black Cat’s unbeaten start to live in League One intact heading into this weekend’s round of games.

In our latest round-up, we take a look at all things Sunderland on a whistle-stop tour of the news from the past week.

It was a tough week for travelling if you are of a Sunderland persuasion, having had to travel to Gillingham on Wednesday before a trip to the capital to take on Wimbledon four days later.

That made Wednesday night’s away attendance at Preistfield even more impressive - a staggering 2087 fans filled the uncovered stand at the Kent club’s ground in what was a sensation 4-1 win for Ross’ men.

Midfielder Max Power tweeted support for the band of travelling support, as did the hosts Gillingham in what was an impressive following for a midweek game.

Away from the pitch, it has been doom and gloom around the Stadium of Light over the past two seasons, but it looks like team spirit and togetherness is at an all-time high.

The club have been tweeting out videos from their Academy of Light training ground showing the moral of the side, including a cheeky nutmeg by manager Ross on Lynden Gooch.

It was all smiles after the Gills win and before the Wimbledon victory as Sunderland climbed up to second in the League One table.

After his double at the weekend, Cattermole was named in the EFL team of the week, something Black Cat’s fans may not have thought they would have seen with the midfielder’s future in doubt in recent weeks.

But with Cattermole part of Ross’ plans, the past weekend puts the icing on the cake for the boss and the man in the middle ahead of the home clash with Oxford United this weekend.

And finally, on the transfer front, Didier Ndong’s move to Greek side Panathinaikos looks dead in the water according to reports, a move has been abandoned after receiving adverse reports about the 24-year-old.

According to reports in Portugal and Africa, however, they suggest that Benfica are interested in the midfielder, who is still AWOL from the Stadium of Light.
