Reports from HITC Sports suggest Sky Bet Championship side Sunderland are nearing the completion of their second summer signing with the addition of free agent goalkeeper John Ruddy.

The one-time capped international played in over 240 matches for Norwich City before being released at the end of last season, despite featuring in over half of the Canaries' league outings, and is now being lined-up by relegated Sunderland.

New Black Cats boss Simon Grayson has been charge at the Stadium of Light for just seven days and his era at the club is seemingly underway as he completed the arrival of defender Brendan Galloway on loan from Everton last week.

Sunderland lost their key man between the posts last month when a £30 million fee saw promising 'keeper Jordan Pickford move to Goodison Park and it looks likely Grayson has finally found a replacement.

Ruddy was an integral member of Norwich City's two promotions in the last six years after helping them guide their place in the top-flight as runners-up in 2011 prior to defeating Middlesbrough in the 2015 Play-Off Final.

The 30-year-old had spent seven years at Carrow Road but also enjoyed five campaigns at Everton, however, only featured on one occasion for the Toffees following a number of loan spells away from the club.
