Sunderland have reached an agreement with Wolves as they look to sign Dion Sanderson before the deadline.
The versatile defender, who can play as a right wing-back or a centre-back, has been highly-rated by Wolves fans after impressing in pre-season last year before enjoying a productive loan spell with Cardiff City in the previous campaign.
However, the 20-year-old evidently wasn't in Nuno Espirito Santo's plans at Molineux when he didn't include the defender for a League Cup tie last month when the senior squad was short at right wing-back.
Therefore, a move has seemed inevitable since then and Football Insider have confirmed that the Black Cats are going to win the race for Sanderson and they have sorted a deal with the Premier League side that will see the youngster move on an initial loan.
This will be seen as something of a coup for the Black Cats as the Wolves academy graduate looked assured on the whole in 10 appearances for the Bluebirds last season and the update claims both Cardiff and Swansea had kept tabs on him during this window.
The verdict
This would be a fantastic move for Sanderson as he will be joining another big club and he will hope to play a significant role as Sunderland push for promotion.
He is a very athletic player and reliable defensively, with his versatility meaning he can do two a job in two positions for Phil Parkinson.
Ultimately, this seems like a move that suits all parties and it may be something that can be made permanent further down the line.
