Four senior Sunderland players have told the club they want to leave, according to The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Thursday 21st June, 18:00].

Didier Ndong, Lamine Kone, Wahbi Khazri and Papy Djilobodji are all ready to head for the exit door this summer.

Sunderland are prepared to sell them to get their hefty Premier League wages off the books and raise funds for a squad rebuilding project.

Djilobodji, 29, is a centre-half who signed for the Black Cats from Sunderland but failed to impress and spent last season on loan at Dijon.

Khazri also spent the year in France, on loan at Rennes, and he is currently at the World Cup with Tunisia.

Meanwhile, Ndong failed to make an appearance on loan at Watford last term but he is still expected to leave with Torino and Cardiff City among the interested parties.

And centre-half Kone spent the whole of last season at Sunderland but his large wages are a problem in League One.

Sunderland also expect another trio of high-earners from their Premier League era to leave with Jack Rodwell, Lee Cattermole and Bryan Oviedo set for departures.

Meanwhile, promising young duo George Honeyman, 23, and Joel Asoro, 19, have also expressed their desire to leave the club before the start of next season.

The Verdict

Losing these four players will not be major losses for Sunderland as their exits are inevitable.

They were without three of these four for the latter half of last season and Kone's wages are unsustainable at this level.

The funds raised from these sales should help Jack Ross bring in his own targets this summer.
