Blackburn centre-half Shane Duffy is reportedly a target for Sam Allardyce’s Sunderland with the north east club apparently considering a £5m move for the 24-year-old, according to the North Shields Gazette.
The Republic of Ireland international has appeared in all but two of Blackburn’s league games this season and has contributed two goals.
Duffy started his career at Everton and had loan spells at Burnley, Scunthorpe United and Yeovil Town before securing a permanent deal to Ewood Park in 2014.
He has since made 47 appearances for the Lancashire club and his displays have caught the eye of Black Cats boss Allardyce who is keen to bring him to the Stadium of Light when the summer transfers window opens.
Rovers already have Jordi Gomez and Danny Graham on loan from Sunderland after selling hotshot Jordan Rhodes to Middlesbrough, on transfer deadline day.
Paul Lambert’s men were knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend after a 5-1 mauling by Premier League West Ham.
They currently sit in 19th position in the Championship just eight points above the relegation zone with two games in hand due to their recent cup exploits.
Their next match is against Derby County at the iPro on Wednesday 23rd February where they will be hoping to cause an upset.
Blackburn fans – would you be sad to see Duffy go in the summer? Should the club try and keep hold of him at all costs? Or would you accept a bid of £5m for the Irish defender?
