Jack Ross is plotting a move to take Celtic's Ryan Christie to the Stadium of Light on a loan deal, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

The 23-year old, a £500,000 buy from Inverness Caledonian Thistle, has struggled to break through at Parkhead and now Ross wants to add him to the ranks at Sunderland, with a view to a permanent transfer.

The player has spent the last season and a half on loan at Aberdeen and his current deal expires at the end of this campaign. The report suggests he won't be offered a new one, meaning any loan deal could end in a free permanent transfer.

However, Celtic want to recoup some of their outlay be selling him in January and are reported to want to listen to offers.

The midfielder has two full Scottish caps to his name, but has appeared just ten times in the league for the Hoops. He's also been on loan at Inverness as well as Pittodrie, where he's made a further 52 top flight appearances.

The Verdict

This could be a very exciting signing, Christie might not have broken through at Celtic but he's looked more than competent at Aberdeen who are one of the strongest sides outside of the big two.

He's young, clearly a player with potential and could easily thrive in the English third-tier. It would certainly be a signing for the future.
